“I want to encourage you to use every opportunity available to develop yourselves professionally not only what DAT offers but there are a lot of opportunities out there, even within the ministry of education and we want to encourage teachers to make themselves available for further training, not just at a certificate of attendance level, but at other levels. There are a number of areas of need within the Ministry of Education and you are the ones to fill those needs,” Hyacinth stressed.

Catherine Inglis Meantime, Dominican teachers have also been complimented as “examples of resilience and perseverance.”

According to leader of CTF, Catherine Inglis, visits to various parts of the island while she has been here have revealed that Dominica, though small, “is mighty just like the teachers in this room.”

“The teachers here, like the people of Dominica, are an example of resilience and perseverance. During difficult times, you continue to put forward your best effort to learn and to grow as educators…and we are so glad to be with such a lovely group of life long learners in our sessions,” she said

Inglis also stated that she hopes the strategies they have learnt will be used for the new school year

“We hope that you are left more prepared for the coming school year…I know I am excited as many of you to try out some of the strategies and ideas that were generated in our two week session. Your hard work and dedication will be seen by the parents and students with whom you work, as well as your teachers in your schools. They will look to you as leaders, as people who have extra things to offer in education.”

She said the CTF looks forward to continue to partner with the DAT pointing out that “as a union we are united and we are stronger.”
