'I won't be at KC forever' … Bernard plays down talks of leading possible dynasty

Having led his alma mater Kingston College (KC) to the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup title, ending a 32-year wait in the process, head coach Ludlow Bernard has cast doubts on his future in the position.

Though the thought of trying to engineer the next Kingston College sporting dynasty seems enticing, the experienced coach is not planning to stay at KC for much longer.

Bernard returned to 2A North Street with the aim of ending the school’s Manning Cup title drought and after delivering the title last Friday, with a 3-2 victory over St George’s College in the final at the National Stadium, has cautioned that his time at the institution might be nearing an end.

Principal, Dave Myrie, noted in his address to the school during their title celebration last Monday, that the champions have a tendency to win championships in streaks, stating: “Once KC start to win, God help everybody else.”

However, Bernard has plans of his own, and at this time, questions whether or not he will be on the KC bench for a long enough period to lead a streak.

“I am not going to say that I am up for the task (title streak). As I have been telling everyone, there are other things I do apart from being a football coach. My time at KC is just a contribution to the school and clearly it cannot go on forever,” aid Bernard. “I would take great pleasure in laying the foundation for what can be a dynasty, but it doesn’t have to involve me all the time.”

Kingston College will face Clarendon College for the Olivier Shield tomorrow at the National Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
