Almost 500 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Cayman Islands since December 31. Interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Autilia Newton says 429 cases are from community transmission and 62 among travellers. The update did not include information on how many of the new cases involved the highly contagious Omicron variant. To date, genomic sequencing has confirmed 89 cases of Omicron in Cayman. The latest results increase the total number of COVID-19 cases in Cayman since the start of the pandemic to 9,509.
